Welcome To Kuala Lumpur International Film Academy Awards 2024

Movies can gain acceptance into the Official Selection for various categories, including Competition, Out of Competition, or Un Certain Regard. The selection committee holds the exclusive authority to determine the specific category in which a chosen film will be presented.

To submit a film, you need to:
  • Comply with the preselection conditions
  • Fill out the online entry form
  • Upload your film online (for short films)
  • Send your film (for the feature films) to the address indicated at the bottom of the entry form
  • If your film is selected, you must comply with the festival’s rules and regulations

  • The KLIFAA Awards, with a focus on promoting the development of a global community with a shared future for humanity, seeks outstanding film and Telenovela programs that embody universal human values and align with common aesthetic aspirations. Its aim is to deepen cultural exchanges, foster mutual appreciation among civilizations, and enhance mutual understanding among people from all nations.

FEATURE FILMS

2023 PRESELECTION CONDITIONS

IMPORTANT
  • • The Selection Committee of the KLIFAA Awards is exclusively in charge of the Official Selection and decides in which section a film can participate. For feature films applying to KLIFAA, please send an email to award@klifaa.com.

  • See the regulations

  • Individuals and organizations submitting works must own the copyright and ensure compliance with all laws and regulations, avoiding infringement on third-party rights.
  • In co-productions, one party must be identified as the participating entity.
  • Films should have a minimum runtime of 70 minutes and be in MP4 or MOV format, with a resolution of 1080P or higher. Mobile storage media (CD, U disk, mobile hard disk) or online download links are accepted.
  • Films that have not been shown on the Internet or released on DVD
  • For actors and actresses competing for Best Actor and Best Actress, they must provide their own dubbing.
  • Entry information should include, but is not limited to, a synopsis, stills, director's profile, director's photo, credits list, poster, trailer, and English-subtitled video.

Only feature films that meet the following conditions may be chosen for invitation to the Official Selection:
  • Films that have been produced during the twelve months preceding the festival
  • Films whose distribution is limited to their country of origin

In order to be selected as a feature film, your film must be more than 60 minutes long.
The Festival of KLIFAA does not accept films with a duration of between 15 and 60 minutes.

The registration deadline is October 20, 2023. (By this date, the registration form below must have been filled out and validated).
One of the accepted formats submitted for pre-selection must be received by the festival no later than November 3, 2023.

Whatever equipment used for shooting the film (mini DV, super 8, 35mm…), only the following will be accepted for the preselection:
  • DCP (Digital Cinema Package): Server JPEG 2000 (model DOREMI DCP 2K4). Server reads only JPEG 2000 files. Available connections: CRU bay, e-Sata, USB. Once your submission is complete, contact the Film Department for the server certificate and how to send your KDM.
  • MP4 or MOV format
  • Upload online
Please send your film once only and in one format only.

N.B. It is possible to present a working copy of the film. When filling out the entry form, please state if your submission is the final version or a working version. Submission of a working copy does not allow for later submission of a final copy.

The Selection Committee will accept films:
  • WITH English subtitles for all other original languages.

Whatever equipment used for shooting the film (mini DV, super 8, 35mm…), only the following will be accepted for the preselection:
  • Feature film on DVD standard or Blu-ray Disc: 90 USD all taxes included.
  • Upload online: 180 USD all taxes included.
  • Feature film on DCP (Digital Cinema Package): 700 USD all taxes included.
  • Upload online

The application and screening fee must be paid at the time of online registration (using the form below). The application and screening costs are borne by the producer or the sender.

Only payment by credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard / Eurocard, and American Express is accepted. Your credit card will be debited on a secure website when filling in the entry form. Payment validates the completion of registration. All payments must be made in euros.

The return transport costs are borne by the producer or by the return consignee for the print. The total invoice (transport, screening, etc.) must be paid upon arrival of the print in order for us to release the print once the Selection Committee has screened it.

Other screening materials: Following the screening, the various materials received are not returned to the sender by the Festival. (Note however that materials may be picked up directly from the Festival offices until July 14th, 2023)

  • You will be contacted before the official press conference.
  • You must supply us either with a DCP (Digital Cinema Package), a JPEG 2000 file or a MP4 or MOV.
  • The Film Department will send you all the necessary information on time, only if your film is selected.

SHORT FILMS

Do not exceed 15 minutes in length.

The registration deadline is October 20, 2023. (By this date, the registration form below must have been filled out and validated).

2023 PRE-SELECTION CONDITIONS

IMPORTANT
  • The Telenovela Book-to-Screen Award Category Regulations are designed to establish guidelines and criteria for recognizing excellence in the adaptation of literary works into telenovelas for television and streaming platforms. These regulations aim to celebrate the collaboration between authors, screenwriters, and production teams that bring captivating stories to life on the screen while maintaining the essence of the original book.

  • Adapted Work: To be eligible for this award category, the telenovela must be based on a published literary work, such as a novel, novella, or collection of short stories.

  • Originality: The adapted telenovela should demonstrate creativity in translating the source material to the screen, preserving the core narrative while adding cinematic and dramatic elements.

  • Air Date: The telenovela must have been broadcasted or made available for streaming during the eligibility period specified by the award ceremony.

Entry Application: Production companies or broadcasters must submit a formal application for consideration in the Telenovela Book-to-Screen Award category.
  • The application should include:
  • Title of the telenovela
  • Name of the source literary work
  • Release date
  • A brief synopsis
  • List of principal cast and production team members
  • Proof of Rights: A copy of the acquired rights for adapting the literary work into a telenovela must be provided.

In order to be selected as a feature film, your film must be more than 60 minutes long.
The Festival de Cannes does not accept films with a duration of between 15 and 60 minutes.

The registration deadline is March 21th, 2023. (By this date, the registration form below must have been filled out and validated).
One of the accepted formats submitted for preselection must be received by the Festival no later than March 28th, 2023.

  • DCP / DVD / Blu-ray: they must be sent by mail directly to the Film Department at the Festival office (please find the address at the end of the entry form). If are sent through an express parcel service your package should read “For cultural purposes only” and “Without commercial value” on the package. For any materials sent by express parcel service, payment for delivery must have been made in full, including any duty and taxes. Otherwise, the Festival reserves the right not to accept the package.

  • It is also possible to make delivery in person or by courier. (Please check our office hours in advance.)

Documentary

2023 PRESELECTION CONDITIONS

IMPORTANT
  • The Documentary Category Regulations establish guidelines and criteria for recognizing excellence in documentary filmmaking. These regulations aim to honor the art and craft of non-fiction storytelling, celebrating filmmakers who explore and illuminate real-life subjects, events, and issues through the medium of documentary film.

  • Individuals and organizations submitting works must own the copyright and ensure compliance with all laws and regulations, avoiding infringement on third-party rights.

  • In co-productions, one party must be identified as the participating entity.

  • Documentaries should provide at least three episodes, including the first, middle, and last.

  • Single documentaries should provide the entire program. Entries should be in MP4 or MOV format, with a resolution of 1080P or above. Mobile storage media (CD, U disk, mobile hard disk) or online download links are accepted.

  • Entry information should include, but is not limited to, a synopsis, stills, posters, credits information, trailer, and English-subtitled video.

Only feature films that meet the following conditions may be chosen for invitation to the Official Selection:
  • Films that have been produced during the twelve months preceding the Festival
  • Films whose distribution is limited to their country of origin
  • Films that have not been presented at any international motion picture event. If the film has been selected for an international section (competitive or not) of a festival, it becomes ineligible for the Festival de Cannes. A selection is international if it presents films from different countries.
  • Films that have not been shown on the Internet or released on DVD
  • Every feature film invited to be in competition must be released theatrically in France in accordance with French legislation pertaining to media chronology rules. Any beneficiary, producer or authorized representative submitting a feature film commits to honoring this clause.

In order to be selected as a feature film, your film must be more than 60 minutes long.
The Festival de Cannes does not accept films with a duration of between 15 and 60 minutes.
